Dan Wheeler headed to the 2014 Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge at Brands Hatch on 10/11 May 2014 to continue his campaign, walking away with joint lead of the Challenge standings despite a tough weekend.
After heading out late in qualifying, due to hedging bets on tyres and having to change two tyres at the last-minute, Dan went on to secure a lap time of 0:54.746 on the final lap, putting him on the front row of the grid for the first race of the weekend. Meanwhile his second fastest lap time, 0:55.861, secured him a sixth-place start in race two.
The competitive field jostled for position at the start of race one, with Dan in third place. On lap 12, with Dan running fifth, an incident between Aaron Smith and Richard Casey promoted him to third, which he held until the chequered flag, crossing the line behind Kane Astin and Rupert Deeth.
From the third row of the grid in race two, Dan got caught behind James Coulson and Colin Peacock for the first ten laps. Once passed Coulson and Peacock, Dan got his head down, producing the fastest lap of the race (0:54.956), on his way to catching and passing Kane Astin to secure fourth place.
Dan Wheeler commented, "As well as making it to the podium in the Mini Miglia on Saturday, I was fortunate enough to also race my historic touring car, a 1964 Mini, as part of the Brands Hatch Mini Festival, finishing on the podium twice. All things considered, I can walk away from the second race weekend positively and look forward to Cadwell Park."
With 72 points, Dan Wheeler now jointly leads the 2014 Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge, with rival Kane Astin also on 72 points.
